I think it's important to come back to the most important thing: having fun writing. Satire and humor pieces never get boosted, and yet for me they are the most fun to write, even more than poetry. Would I give that up for a shot for a boost? Hell no. Also, you're right about the value of community. I think some of the comments made about 'manufactured engagement' have probably scarred writers a little bit...
